K3 - Dolphins

Dolphin Overview

In Dolphins, students start the year by reviewing 3 letter words. Everyday, a set of words is introduced. Students work on the spelling of the words given. Students’ reading skills are emphasized through spelling tests, activities and worksheets. Cursive is introduced through tracing and writing textbooks.

For Math, teachers focus on modeling, counting and comparing numbers 1 to 10 as well as 2-digit additions and subtractions. Teachers focus on representing, counting and writing numbers 11 to 20 and beyond as well as identifying and describing 2D and 3D shapes. The concept of measurement is also introduced. From term 2, a big emphasis is placed on reading. Time is allotted to read books with support from the homeroom teacher. Students also study blends. The concept of blends is emphasized through spelling tests, activities and worksheets. Everyday, a set of words is introduced and students work on the spelling of the words given. 

For writing, students work on basic sentences in cursive and reviewing lower case. Students study blends which is emphasized through spelling tests, activities and worksheets. Everyday, a set of words is introduced and students work on the spelling of the words given. Japanese lessons are held twice a week throughout the year. Students learn hiragana and songs.

For reading, time is allotted to read books with support from the homeroom teachers. Children are to tell a stories in front of their peers which also builds confidence. 

At the end of Dolphins, students are able to read sentences, solve additions and subtractions as well as writing basic sentences on dictation in cursive, more than equipped to enter grade 1 successfully.
